Wondering if you might be pregnant can be exciting or terrifying if the pregnancy wasn’t planned. Taking a pregnancy test and having an ultrasound performed are the only reliable ways to know if you’re really pregnant or not.
During pregnancy, a woman’s body begins to produce a hormone called hCG. Known as the pregnancy hormone, hCG is only present during pregnancy and is the culprit for many of the early pregnancy signs.Â
We’ve outlined some common early signs of pregnancy below to help alert you it may be time to grab a pregnancy test from the local drugstore.
Missing Your PeriodÂ
Often, the first sign of pregnancy is a missed period. While missing your monthly cycle can point to pregnancy, if your cycles aren’t regular, this symptom can be misleading.Â
Fatigue
During pregnancy, a woman’s body begins creating so many new things to support the pregnancy. Blood volume increases by 30-50%, the placenta is developed, and all the vital organs are created from scratch, just to name a few things.Â
With all this new work going on inside, many women report feeling fatigued and extra tired.Â
Nausea or VomitingÂ
As a pregnancy develops, the levels of hCG increase dramatically. It’s thought that these hormones are the culprit for causing nausea and morning sickness.Â
If you’re feeling queasy during the day, sipping on ginger ale may help bring some relief.Â
More Frequent Trips to the BathroomÂ
Do you need to pee more than usual lately? As the uterus expands in pregnancy, it can put extra pressure on the nearby bladder, causing women to use the bathroom more frequently.
