The Abortion Pill
The abortion pill method terminates a pregnancy with drugs. It is also known as a medical abortion. It’s essential to get all the facts surrounding your pregnancy, the abortion pill method, side effects, and potential risks.
How Does The Abortion Pill Work?
A woman typically takes the abortion pill at home after being prescribed through a hospital or abortion clinic. Despite the name, it is actually a series of two drugs: mifepristone and misoprostol.
First, mifepristone is taken to block the pregnancy hormone progesterone. Then, a woman takes misoprostol 24-48 hours later to cause uterine contractions and expel the pregnancy from the uterus.
The abortion pill is FDA-approved through ten weeks gestation (how far along you are in your pregnancy).
