Is The Abortion Pill Reversible?

An abortion is a permanent, life-altering procedure. However, some women experience a change of heart after beginning the process of an abortion and wish to stop it. If you or a friend have recently taken the abortion pill but now believe that wasn’t the best decision for you, there is a window of hope.

What Is The Abortion Pill?

The abortion pill is a two step process that utilizes the drugs mifepristone and misoprostol. Mifepristone works by blocking the production of progesterone, a hormone essential for a pregnancy to implant and grow.  24-48 hours later, misoprostol is prescribed to expel the pregnancy from the uterus. Women will experience heavy bleeding (similar to a heavy period) and intense cramping as the pregnancy is passed.

Is It Reversible?

Yes. In the short window after taking mifepristone but before ingesting misoprostol, the effects of the abortion pill can be reversed.

A 2018 study revealed that women who were given progesterone supplementation had a 68% chance of reversing the effects of the abortion pill and continuing the pregnancy. No birth defects were documented in reversing the abortion pill. It is safe and effective for women who have chosen a different path.

The Abortion Pill Rescue Network is available 24/7 to women who would like to reverse the effects of their medical abortion. Contact 877-558-0333 right away to begin the reversal process.
